Distortion 2 - A Self Portrait Painting

A few years ago I took a few “selfies” of myself with a glass jar for reference photos to paint a self-portrait, I saw how my face changed within the jar.

The glass distorted my physical appearance, which made me realize how many times we have distorted internal views of ourselves – sometimes better than we really are, sometimes worse.

Many are bothered by this painting and say it doesn’t portray who I really am. But I say it is a spot on representation of myself… once you look beyond the paint.

How do you see yourself? Can you see yourself in clarity as in the left side of the painting or do you have the distorted view in the right side?

This is the second self portrait painting, the first was done in 2016.
